My name is Kevonya Elzia, and I am the Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the National Health Care for the Homeless Council. It is my delight to write and share this letter of recommendation for Irwin Batara, whom I came to know in 2021.

As someone who has worked under Irwin Batara’s leadership, I hold him in high regard. When it comes to incorporating Equity, Diversity & Inclusion into the Human Resource space, Irwin is a dedicated, brilliant, and strategic leader, colleague, and expert who inspires all who interact with him, from front-line staff to executive leadership. Irwin’s leadership style cultivates inclusive team dynamics that empower his staff and encourage them to embrace their role in an organization’s mission fully. One example of this leadership is Irwin’s invaluable experience restructuring policies and practices that help infuse equity into an organization’s culture. And his commitment to using restorative practices in conflict resolution.

When it comes to Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion programming, Irwin excels at meeting people where they are and supporting them on their journey to understanding the role of EDI in their daily work.
Irwin is a tremendous asset to any organization looking to embody a commitment to social justice and equity for its staff and those they serve.

Please feel free to contact me with questions related to the leadership of Irwin Batara.

Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity Inclusion
National Health Care for the Homeless Council

I had the pleasure and luck of working with Irwin in his roles as director and then interim chief of people and equity at Neighborcare Health. His leadership was critical to guide our organization through equity and justice work during the COVID pandemic and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. Irwin walked the talk, and elevated the voices of others, especially BIPOC, women, and LBTQIA folks. He masterfully supported me and my peer leaders through a number of very complex conflict resolution and performance management situations in a way that was aligned with our values and emphasized dignity and justice. I hope to be able to work under his leadership again in the future.

Irwin is an exceptional talent with a great attention to detail. He possesses the rare talent of being able to perform at a very high level while making the entire process of doing so look easy!

Irwin works hard and responds well to feedback. He is a good support for his peers, is loyal and dedicated to the Asian-Pacific Islander community.
